How to poor people afford housing in the UK?

I was just wondering what people with low incomes do when it comes to purchasing property. For example I earn £15,000 a year and worked out I can only get a mortgage of £52,500 (3.5x salary). Do poor people just rent all there lives? I have saved up around £22,000 over the past few years but still thats only around £72,000 mortgage which isn’t even enough for a flat around here in Hampshire!

There’s still parts of the country where you can pick up a flat for less than 60 grand. You’ve just got to compromise on where you live
