The fastest growing communities in the United States

On August 21, 2006, the Census Bureau has issued U.S. growth data classification Population of major metropolitan areas (population of 50,000 or more) and Micropolitan areas (population over 10,000 but less than 50,000) in the nation. Two lists are presented in this article. The first list ranks the metropolitan Top 15 and the second list ranks the Top 15 Micropolitan areas.

Communities are ranked according to their percentage of population change from April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2005. The 15 largest metropolitan areas United States, followed by the number of people who joined from 2000 to 2005, and the percentage of population increase since 1 April 2000.

1. St. George, Utah: 28531 (31.6% increase)
2. Greeley, Colorado 48082 (26.6% increase)
3. Las Vegas-Paradise, Nevada: 334813 (increase 24.3%)
4. Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida: 103,870 (23.6 increase)
5. Bend, Oregon: 26015 (22.5% increase)
6. Naples-Marco Island, Florida 55865 (increase of 22.2%)
7. Provo-Orem, Utah: 76073 (increase of 20.2%)
8. Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, California: 655133 (increase 20.1%)
9. Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Florida 61607 (19.3% increase)
10. Raleigh-Cary, NC North: 152,655 (an increase of 19.2%)
11. McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas: 108812 (19.1% increase)
12. Gainesville, Georgia: 26,456 (an increase 19.0%)
13. Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, Arizona: 613201 (18.9% increase)
14. Prescott, Arizona: 31.1841 (up 18.6%)
15. Stockton, California: 100,518 (an increase of 17.8%)

Metropolitan San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos (Calif.), the region ranked # 197 by adding 119,629 people over the last 5 years (up 4.3% since 2000).

Here are the 15 largest Micropolitan (populations over 10,000 but less than 50,000) in the United States, followed by the number of people added from 2000 to 2005, and the percent increase in population since 1 April 2000.

1. Palm Coast, Florida: 26578 (increase of 53.3%)
2. Fernley, Nevada: 13,014 (an increase of 37.7%)
3. Heber, Utah: 3759 (increase of 24.7%)
4. Pahrump, Nevada: 7965 (increase of 24.5%)
5. Culpeper, Virginia: 8268 (increase of 24.1%)
6. Lake Havasu City-Kingman, Arizona 32168 (increase 20.7%)
7. The Villages, Florida: 10837 (up 20.3%)
8. East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 24547 (increase 17.7%)
9. Granbury, Texas: 7599 (up 15.9%)
10. Daphne Fairhope, Alabama 22171 (increase of 15.8%)
11. Bozeman, Montana: 10379 (15.3% increase)
12. Prineville: 2883 (increase of 15.0%)
13. Statesville-Mooresville, North Carolina: 18,264 (an increase of 14.9%)
14. Calhoun, Georgia: 6175 (increase of 14.0%)
15. Gardnerville Ranchos, Nevada: 5758 (increase of 14.0%)
