obama mortgage interest deductions

May 24th, 2010 by admin

Do I qualify for Obama’s new home buyers credit?

In 2006 I accepted an offer to go in 1/2 on a house that my friend had purchased. The loan, deed, and all other documentation for the home is under his name. Last year I moved from the premises and I am now in the process of buying my own home. For the time I was living in the house (2006-2008) I claimed 1/2 of the mortgage interest on my taxes and received a refund.

At first my tax guy said I was eligible for the new 2009 home buyers credit but now he thinks I might run into issues because I did claim these mortgage deductions on my taxes which shows ownership interest on the property.

I can’t seem to find the answer on irs.gov so I’m hoping someone here can help! Thank you

Sorry you will not qualify because of your previous home ownership.

Mortgage Freedom will save the average Canadian homeowner tens of thousands of dollars and help her shave years off her mortgage. In this book Alexander Aiken offers readers a comprehensive method of how to structure your debt in a way which will provide tax deductions and tax refunds for most Canadians. The book explains the type of mortgage required, the institutions which offer them, ways to accelerate the plan, the investments used, how to use the tax refunds, recent tax rulings, and much more. In its simplest terms, Canadian homeowners can pay down their mortgages as quickly as possible, creating small amounts of equity each month. That equity is simultaneously filled with a line of credit to be used for investment purposes. The interest on the growing investment loan is tax deductible.
