Am i crap with money or is everyone in the same boat?

I don’t lead an extravagant lifestyle – I’ve got a 2 year old daughter and probs go out about once a month (to a wedding do or something like that, rest of the time, go round friends houses rather than go into town). I don’t earn a bad wage, (come out with £1000 per month after tax) although child minders and 2hrs at nursery comes to £400 per month. My boyfriend earns around the same, and so combined we get £2000 a month, but our outgoings on bills are so huge that we have about £350 per month left to include buying food. We don’t do bad – we have a mortgage, and run a car, but my question is this… why are we only just covering our costs every month? All our friends are constantly asking us to come out for meals/drinks etc etc and we always have to say no because we can’t afford £50 odd quid for a night out. And they all have new outfits, etc etc… how do they manage it, coz they reckon they’re skint, but i am having to cash 1ps in a week before pay day to afford milk?!

Wow you are amazing to manage as well as you do! Have you looked into getting any additional help? Family tax credits may be able to up your income (put in that title on computer and a contact number should come up for you to ring for impartial advice) Also you should be able to get help with your childcare costs (I am a Childminder and alot of my parents, some quite wealthy, get vouchers from places such as Busy Bees, Leap Frog – its a form of tax easement for them so they dont have to pay so much tax per month) All Childminders are supposed to take them and Nurseries too. Take a trip to CAB and tell them your financial position and they may be able to assist you and point you in the right direction. I just feel you should be able to get some form of help to ease your situation somewhat. Good luck!
