Coal Mine Search?

We have just had an offer accepted on a house but the vendor mentioned that a previous buyer had pulled out but they had found an entrance to a mine shaft close by, we want to go along with this sale but don’t want to spend a fortune on a valuation and solicitors fees when the mortgage company wont lend on it.

I’d say they are quite a sensible vendor as the results would only come back in searches anyway.

You need (or your solicitor) to contact the Coal Authority. They have records of every KNOWN shaft/workings in the UK. The Mining Report is quite common and will inform you of the location, known depth and any claims.
