Is the information entered in the County Clerk's free?

I recently visited the county clerk Local Information on seizures. But to my disappointment can only find information on properties that have some information. in (for example, identification number, address, name). I asked a lady at reception and was told to find seized property was not free and had to buy the information the MLS. What happened? I keep hearing that we can find free information. Please help me I am buying my first house. I know that the (many people told me to do). But what surprises me is what happened? Why do people tell us to go to the County Clerk to obtain free information, it is not free?
