Need a real estate agent or broker's license to a real estate investor?

Personally, I invest in the implementation foreclosure or short sales. I have no license. Need a real estate agent or a broker's license to a real estate investor (execution mortgage)? And if you are a broker or an agent, what are the advantages when you perform a private company?
