current mortgage issues

current mortgage issues
What are your views on the countrys current economic issues?

How do you feel about the situation we are in today? Do you think it is caused by the war, or mortgage issues? Are you worried or do you think we will get out of this before it gets worse? If you are worried what is your biggest fear and why? If you aren’t concerned why are so confident and how do you feel about this issue?

Good question for starters. I like that your’s is not a question loaded with your obvious opinions first and an implied correct answer off the bat.

How do I feel today?

I feel like this is a definitive moment for our nation – I assume you are American – and the western world. I am afraid that we may lose our way of life on one hand. But, I am hopeful that it will lead to more people starting down a path of saving, consuming less, finding things in life that give them long lasting hapiness that do not need to be exchanged or repurchased several times, and physical happiness (I think people with less disposable incomes will find free or cheap physical activities to burn time and have fun like walking, snowball fights, playing pick up basketball).

Causes?

I think there are multiple causes to this calamity!

1 – A widespread lack of financial knowledge and literacy is the starting point. Many Americans cannot figure out how much interest they will pay after 1 year on 10,000 dollar loan at 7%. Knowledge is power. Without it, MANY AMERICANS HAVE BECOME FINANCIAL LITERACY POOR…Even if their incomes keep increasing.

2 – Greed and Naivety. Too many people in the corporate world let their ethics go in the wind, hand in hand with financial illiteracy. This with the fact that American consumers have become so naive to believe bankers, car salespeople, realtors, merchants, advertiser and the all the crappy stuff you see on TV is really in your best interest. I am firm believer that in every monetary transaction there is a winner and loser. In sales there is no win-win situation. There can be a win-lose not so bad situation. But, as a buyer, I know that the odds of me coming out ahead are stacked against me. And, I need to keep a keen eye on anyone after my money.

“A fool and his money are soon parted”

Will it get worse?

I believe so. I believe it will be several years before this turns around. I also believe there are some people out there WAY OVERBLOWING THIS. The USA will not turn into Rawanda or Ukraine overnight or anytime soon.

But, back to me thinking it will get worse. Building on illiteracey in finance, some people do not know just how bad it is. I still see people who complain they are broke going out and dropping hundreds on i-Phones, xbox 360 games and expensive clothes. Yes it is good for the macroeconomy. But, for their microeconomy they are killing themselves. Frankly, too many Americans have been attempting financial suicide for too long. When, this stops (people start saving money, stop using credit/trying to find credit to consume money draining items, and get educated to the money system) I think it will turn around. And, I believe the US economy will become robust again.

My biggest fear?

losing my part-time job right now is my biggest fear. i am very lucky that I have two jobs. My part-time job supplies me with roughly 10,000-12,000 dollars a year. I do not NEED this money to survive! I have used it over the last few years to payoff stubborn credit card purchases (I am now credit card debt free) and my car (I own my car outright) and to travel (been to Australia, Canada, Turkey, Ukraine and Puerto Rico). So, losing this would be a setback in my “way of life”. But, by no means would I be poor. Lately, I have been building up an emergency fund/savings account. Due to the fact that this job may go away. I have 3000 in their now. This is just to keep if the job goes away while I adjust to only receiving my full-time check.

I am confident about my situation. I have a job in public safety with 6 years of seniority. I am in the middle of the pack in the 911 center I work at. And, we are short staffed. So, if cuts came due to county budget, the open slots would be the first to go. And, I am high enough up that 911 would not function if they cut jobs all the way to were I am.

GOOD LUCK EVERY ONE
