Fantasy versus Reality… when do you stop?
We are all told to “chase our dream”, but at what point do you realise that you actually don’t have enough ability to succeed in your chosen field and should just get on with having a wife/kids/mortgage/career/jo-average-life?
Everyone in LA is an actress waiting tables, but after how many years of doing that do you accept that you are actually just a waitress.
BUT,
If you let your dream die, then what do you have left?
good argument, and such a good question! I believe we are supposed to chase our dreams, however considering what the dream may be is important.
if we think of life in terms of a journey, starting from the moment we gain consciousness to the moment we lose it, our journey is a dream. whatever problem encounters us, or setbacks hold us behind, we get past them. in life, we have individual interests that make some of us so bored by other’s mindsets, and others so interested.
chasing your dream – say if it was becoming a hollywood actress – is in itself a fantasy, yet reality: our “dream/fantasy” is what we are chasing, but we can find reality in it. I think this is where one would say to improvise, or find the second-best option, which would mean doing what fulfills you to the best is manageable. If acting is your dream, chase it, but to a level of reality that suits you (for ex., if you are considering settling down and having a family, maybe acting in local shows would be good and not as life-consuming as a Hollywood career)
Your exactly right when you say, if you let your dream die, then what do you have left? you don’t have anything left. the key is to never ever ever let your dream die, because if you do, you’ll have nothing but your worst nightmares.
