My wife and I are divorcing …?

My wife and I are divorcing. She wants to walk away from home, even if our names are on the act. She also co-signed on the loan. We are upside down on the mortgage and I am currently obtaining a loan modification by the bank. Since we can not refinance to save the house and the mortgage solely in my name, what are my options for takeoff from the act? If we file documents to a lawyer or paralegal divorce, can they do something to bring home to my name if it is okay? I have not contacted the lawyer on this issue yet. If it is important to everyone, we live in California.
