Help in career change….i don’t want to sale mortgages anymore?

I graduated from a major university about 2 years ago. Right out tof he gate, i started working for a Mortgage company (ameriquest) and i was making good money until they got bought out by another company. so, after that, i really want to get out of the mortgage business because i do have other skill sets that I like to showcase. However, it seems like once i am in the mortgage business i am stuck for life. I had my resume professionally done so recruiters can see my other skills but no, all i’ve gotten calls from are mortgage companies. I don’t know what i need to do to make my resume noticed by other recuriters. I know I am smart and a quick learner and can bring a lot to a company but i just can’t seem to get a company outside of the mortgage business to give me a chance….please help…what can i do to get out of the mortgage business and a sucessful career change?

Referrals are a good way to go.

But, if you don’t think that will work for you, start networking outside of your current field. Go to Business Associations, Toastmasters, any thing that will put you in front of other people & tell them what you are interested in doing. LinkedIn seems to be a good online resource.

Two years in one field isn’t long enough to “pigeon-hole” you, but you may have to take a small step backwards to be able to change directions. Be willing to consider that.

You may also reach back to your school – see if the career center or alumni office can help connect you.

Best of luck!
